Born in Syria in 1941, Asaad Arabi has been living in Paris since 1975. He graduated from the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University; in 1966, and obtained his PhD in aesthetics and art from the Sorbonne University, Paris, in 1987. Many critics wrote about his work and he also wrote essays and studies on art, some of which were presented in art conferences, both in Arabic and French. He held many solo exhibitions in Dubai, Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, Paris, and Rome. He also participated in group events in Alexandria, Sao Paolo, Paris, London, Barcelona, and Cairo. Some of his work was acquired by Arab, Asian, and European museums. In his work, Arabi focuses on subjects from local and regional civilisations, from ancient civilisations to the Islamic civilization. He approaches his subjects with a variety of styles, from realism to abstract.
