Born in Baghdad in 1939, Dia Azzawi graduated from the Fine Arts Institute in Baghdad in 1964 after receiving a Bachelor Degree in Archaeology from the University of Baghdad. Several authors tackled his rich artistic experience, led by Abdul Wahab Al Bayati. He held several solo shows in London, Paris, Kuwait, Aleppo, Strasbourg, and other Arab and European cities; and his artworks were acquired by Arab and European museums. Dia Azzawi used several expression styles as he produced oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, and book and fabrics designs. He has had a long career, during which he was influenced by the local heritage in his first works, then he began to combine realistic and abstract depiction, influenced by the cubism tradition, without removing the basic characteristics of his topics, which ranged from humans to animals.
